My family likes to make desserts because it was a tradition startedby my mother. She used to make the best Christmas Cake but eac h year she would make a different dessert on top. This year it was my turn and this year I made some meringues.

It was a very cold and grey January Sunday, the promised Siberian winds seem to have arrived and it finally feels a bit like winter. A little bit like a contradiction is that today I saw the first crocus of the year when out walking with friends.

These were a staple of eating out and "food ball" food on Sundays growing up in Wisconsin. I remember the first time I had them... It was at a little bar & grilled called M.J. Stevens off the interstate between hometown of Fond du Lac, WI and Milwaukee, WI. I was all of 5 or 6 at the time, and these became the "BEST FOOD EVER" in my small culinary world. As an adult, I still love them and like to get creative with my recipe for them. In this video I'll show you how I make Potato Boats or Potato Skins today.

As soon as a dessert involves something served in a chocolate cup, it has myundivided attention. This fabulous dessert crosses indulgent chocolate with afilling of light, fruity raspberry mousse. Individual servings are perfect for sharing.(Or, if you’re so inclined, not sharing.) You can garnish these little gems withwhipped cream and chocolate shavings, or a couple of jaunty raspberries, if youlike. Refrigerate any extra mousse in a separate container to snack on later.

I actually look forward to the cold dark days of winter and the wonderful dishes that we only eat this time of year, like roasted root vegetables. Ugly and oft misunderstood, vegetables like rutabaga, parsnip, and turnip don’t seem all that appealing compared to well, most everything else in the produce section.

If you are ever in Louisiana you need to experience the magic that is a Po' Boy sandwich. If you have no immediate way to get a plane ticket and drop all of your adult responsibilities and head that way, you can always make it at home. I show you how to make a my personal favorite - The Fried Shrimp Po' Boy in this video. Happy eating!
